What is vicarious trauma?

Vicarious trauma refers to a cumulative set of reactions to the experience of secondary trauma borne from a range of interactions with trauma victims or exposure to traumatic content over an extended period (Vrklevski & Franklin, 2008).

Our Vicarious Trauma in the workplace. Fostering resilience and wellbeing training package has been developed by our principal Clinical Psychologist, Julie Johnston, who has over 20 years of experience working in the trauma field - responding to other people's traumatic experiences and providing psychological treatment for their post traumatic mental health conditions, such as PTSD.

In addition to working in frontline post traumatic mental health service delivery, she has also been engaged over many years in providing a raft of post traumatic mental health training workshops to workplaces and staff across a broad range of organisations, businesses and government departments, both locally and overseas. As a result, she has significant expertise in delivering Vicarious trauma training workshops.

Our process – A tailored approach

When you engage us for your workplace training requirements, you will receive a personalised and tailored approach. An initial meeting with you will be scheduled to discuss your workplace training requirements, and to obtain a detailed understanding about the specific types of trauma and/or traumatic material that your workforce are exposed to. Based on this conversation we will conduct the workshops equipped with a firm understanding of the specific challenges your staff are exposed to.

Following the initial workshop, we will collect anonymous evaluation data from the participants and provide a brief summary report about the impact of the workshop to the Manager. This will give you real data on the effectiveness and impact of the workshop as described by staff.

Julie provides vicarious trauma training to a number of organisations who engage her to provide an annual or bi-annual vicarious trauma training workshop to comply with their Corporate Wellbeing Policy, or other legal and regulatory obligations in relation to Psychosocial Hazards in the workplace.

We are here to support your staff for the short or longer term. We enjoy making an impact on our client's workplace well-being culture. We are committed to educating, building resilience, and improving the wellbeing of workforces who are at risk of vicarious trauma due to the work they perform.
